COUNCILLORS
SIGN “SKERRIES -ITS YOUR TOWN PETITION! “
Councillors from the Balbriggan were recently presented with a
petition by The People of Skerries at Fingal County Council Headquarters
, and have now pledged their support for the SCA(Skerries Community
association) in seeking vital amendments to the County Development
Plan
The
petition, which was organised by Skerries Community Association
(SCA), contains 1000s of signatures from the people of Skerries
collected via a door to door campaign through schools and community
groups. The People of Skerries have overwhelmingly endorsed the
amendments sought by SCA in the Forthcoming County Development
Plan and have shown their support for the “Vision of Skerries”
The
campaign entitled "It’s your town "asked local
people for endorsement of the following critical issues which
will affect the future of people of Skerries- both old and young:

Provision
of lands for new primary school ( present schools being
full) and a new site for St Michael’s House special
national school |
 |
The
provision of sufficient zoned lands for the needs of the
elderly including sheltered housing , community nursing
home, day care centre adequate meals on wheels facilities

 |
Ballast
pits to be zoned for leisure amenities including swimming
pool |
 |
No
residential development ( as currently proposed on a massive
scale ) on the site west of the railway |
Cllrs
Corr, O Connor , Mckeown and Byrne from the Balbriggan ward were
all delighted to sign the petition .Councillor Byrne praised the
work of the SCA “ I am pleased to say that we have already
achieved 3 of the objectives including , the national school site
, funding for leisure and reversal of the housing scheme east
of the railway line back to science and technology , We are still
have further work to do on lands for Community nursing home “

May Mckeown Said “ I think the work of the SCA in collecting
theses signatures and getting the community involved is s real
example of people power at its best “
Councillors
have been asked to lobby the proposals with fellow councillors
from other wards over the coming weeks with the aim of delivering
vital amendments to the County development plan
