THANK
YOU SKERRIES –LOCAL TSUNAMI APPEAL TOPS €40,000
Skerries Community Association (SCA) has collected an astonishing
€40,619.67 from the people of Skerries in a rapid response
2-day collection organised for New Years Eve and New Years Day.
Over
30 volunteers braved the gales and rain to stand in freezing conditions
outside the supermarkets, St Patrick’s church and in the
pubs for 2 days over New year . Every single penny of the money
collected has now been lodged with the Red Cross.
Bob
Laird Chairperson of the SCA said “ The money raised will
only go a small way to relieve the terrible distress being suffered
in Asia . As a coastal town we appreciate the value of living
near water and are so fortunate that we have never experienced
the awesome destruction it can bring “
“
The generosity of Skerries people from the young to the very old
has been fantastic and very touching , and Skerries Community
Association would like to thank the Volunteer collection Team
and the people of Skerries for their generous donations .The strength
of the community spirit in Skerries not only to help their own
people ,but those thousands of miles away has once again been
demonstrated “ |
