| SANDART
- Watch your Step!
If
you didn’t watch your footing on the South Strand on Saturday
16th June you were in danger of losing a foot to a vicious shark.
There were several fine examples of the species crafted in sand
with razor-like mussel shell teeth.
Kids
ranging in age from 1 to 70 sculpted the sand into mermaids, starfish,
jellyfish castles and much more. One group even brought books
with pictures to copy and had water sprays to ensure the perfect
consistency of sand for surface detailing. These tips were picked
up from the States and we expect to see more serious contenders
following suit next year! Groups of people roamed around exchanging
(nicking) information and ideas.
The
sun shone on the busy throng of over 100 creative people. There
were no winners and no losers afterwards when everybody returned
to the marquee in the sailing club for a free goody bag.
The
event was organised by the SCA and sponsored by SuperValu and
many thanks to all those involved.
