Fingal County Council at work in Skerries

Removing our Refuse - The Black Bin Service in Skerries

Charges and collection times:

You can buy tags in the following local shops and garages:

Skerries Hardware, Thomas Hand Street
C. & D. Darcy's, Mourne Court, Skerries
Moriarty's SuperValu, Church Street, Skerries
Gerry's Supermarket, Strand Street, Skerries
First Stop, The Park, Balbriggan Street, Skerries
Skerries Post Office
C. & T. Supermarket, Shenick Road, Skerries

A discounted charge of €3 was given to the Skerries area due to the lack of a green bin dry recyclable collection. Now that we have green bins we must pay the standard tag charge of €5 each time we purchase a tag.

By law Fingal County Council cannot collect bins that do not have the correct tag.

If your household income comes from the Department of Social, Community & Family Affairs (or if your household income is not subject to income tax), then you can get 26 bin tags free of charge each year.

Here is more detailed info on the black bin service:

You should retain the tag counterfoil for tax relief and proof of purchase in the event of a problem with the service. You can claim tax relief by sending a statement of amount spent on tags in one year to The Revenue Commissioners, Unit 3, Block D, Ashtown Gate, Navan Road, Dublin 15. Ph. 1890 33 34 25. Please don't send tag counterfoils but retain them in case of audit.

Fingal Co Council deliver a 240 litre wheeled bin to all homes in the Skerries area. Your bin will be collected on the same day every week and the day will be clearly marked on the label attached to your new bin. If your collection day is Monday - on bank holiday weekends your collection will be on the previous Saturday.

Please bring your bin to the kerbside outside your house on collection day. You should have the handle at the back of the bin facing the road in groups of two or more (if possible) by 7.30 a.m.

Remember, the bin cannot take hot ashes, builder's rubble or corrosive materials (like car batteries).

Close the lid of the bin firmly when you put it out for collection. FCC only collect the rubbish in the bin and they will leave the extra bags behind.

There is a serial number on the side of the lid. Make a note of it in case it is stolen or damaged. You will have to pay €60 for a replacement bin so it's worth looking after it properly.

If you are moving house please leave the bin behind for the next person. If you are moving to a new house contact us to order a new bin 8905473.

If repairs are needed to the lid or wheels the Council will be happy to help - call 8905955 or 8905936.
