Our
vision is to safeguard all that we hold dear about our community,
during these challenging times of growth and development. We wish
to protect and enhance the quality of life for those who live,
work and visit our town and for future generations who will follow.
In pursuit of this vision, we will work tirelessly, and will encourage
and support all those who share our goal.
The
SDCA was relaunched on the 27th May and the name has been changed
to the Skerries Community Association Limited (SCA).
The
SDCA was set up in 1934 to represent the interests and future
development of Skerries. At that time the Skerries Visitors Association
(SVA) that had been in existence since the turn of the century
requested that the two groups amalgamate.
Over
the coming decades dedicated, committed and hard working individuals
gave their time freely to help shape and develop Skerries into
the wonderful community it is today, with its abundance of amenities
and services. We have much to be thankful to them for. The following
are some of the fruits of their work carried out in conjunction
with the County Council and in some instances FAS:
 |
The
preservation of Red Island for public use |
 |
The
construction and management of the Community Centre, which
opened in 1982 |
 |
The
restoration of the Old School House, completed in 1996 |
 |
Sponsorship
of the restoration of Ardgillan Castle, and its management |
 |
Sponsorship
of the restoration of the Windmill and Water Mill |
 |
The
provision of tennis Courts and All-weather pitch |
Today,
we hold true to the original intent of the Association as we strive
to represent the interests and future developments of Skerries.
