Works to start soon on Ballast Pit Path

Fingal County Council Transportation Dept has agreed to proceed with the "Ballast Pit" pedestrian and cycling path in the short term.  The following is the text given to the local press recently:

"The provision of a proper pedestrian and cyclist path across the Ballast Pit to link the Townsparks Distributor Road to the railway station at Skerries has been an objective of Fingal County Council for some time.  This was recently approved by Fingal County Council as part of the Skerries Traffic Management Scheme Phase 3.  Site excavations are being carried out on site to determine the existing ground conditions in order to complete the design process.

Following completion of design work it is expected that tender would be sought in September 2010 with an anticipated date for completion early 2011".

All of the above relates only to the pedestrian and cycleway across the ballast pit.  The remainder of the scheme is not included in the current works.

The project will most likel carry over to 2011 so the funding will be from a combination of
2010 and 2011 capital allocation(s).
